How to plan your route by car
If you stay in Maó, Es Castell or Sant Lluís, the Maó night market, Cales Fonts and Punta Prima are all close by. From the centre of the island, Es Mercadal, Alaior and Ferreries are easy evening plans. If you are staying in the west, Ciutadella markets are the most convenient, but by car you can also reach Fornells or Es Mercadal without relying on bus timetables.
Practical tips for visiting the markets
- Arrive with some time to spare: in July and August village centres and harbours fill up around sunset.
- Park outside the historic centre and walk a few minutes; it is usually easier than looking for a space in the main square.
- Combine the market with dinner or a harbour walk, especially in Maó, Ciutadella, Cales Fonts and Fornells.
- Carry some cash in case a small stall does not accept cards.
- If you buy delicate products or food, avoid leaving them in the car for too long in the heat.
Markets we especially recommend
For a lively town atmosphere and plenty of dinner options, Maó and Ciutadella are safe choices. For a more maritime evening, Cales Fonts and Fornells are full of charm. For a family plan near the sea, Punta Prima and Cala en Porter work very well. For a more local village feel, Alaior, Es Mercadal and Ferreries are excellent options.
